When we think of war, mass atrocities, and crimes against humanity, we often think of governments, rebel groups, victims, and military groups. Too often we forget the role corporations play in making those atrocities happen. In the kick-off to the 2025 North County Lecture Series with Dr. Sarah Federman, we follow the story of the French National Railways, SNCF, which had overlapping roles of victim, hero, and perpetrator during World War II. In the 1990s-2016, the company went through a long process of integrating and responding to its role in the Holocaust, both in the United States and France.

TEST: What Makes Food Jewish: A Live Cooking Experience with Debbie Kornberg

This three-part class will explore the history of Jewish food from biblical times through modern day. In examining the diverse Jewish food culture, you will get the opportunity to appreciate the deep-rooted traditions of Ashkenazi, Sephardi, and Mizrachi cooking while weaving together the beautiful tapestry of Jewish peoplehood. Each session will include a tasting component and/or a cooking demonstration.

Cooking Class: Bittersweet

Following the delicious Our Shabbat Table program with cookbook author and chef Kitty Morse, we're excited to bring you a cooking class with recipes straight out of Kitty's cookbook, Bittersweet. Led by esteemed San Diego chef and educator Debbie Kornberg, this is a fun afternoon where you get to learn a new Jewish recipe and meet some new friends.

JCompany Youth Theatre

JCompany Youth Theatre does not inspire and create theatrical triple threats; it inspires and creates theatrical quadruple threats: multi-talented, well-rounded performers who can act, sing, dance, and who live and breathe compassion. This award-winning theatre provides an opportunity for children, ages 4 through 18, to learn under–and be inspired by–seasoned industry professionals.

Film Festival (SDIJFF)

The San Diego International Jewish Film Festival has an impressive 35-year history. With the highest attendance of any Jewish cultural event in the county, here film buffs can enjoy feature-length documentaries, narratives, and animated films. The San Diego International Jewish Film Festival also regularly welcomes guest speakers and filmmakers who offer deep dives into Jewish and Israeli life, history, and culture.

Our Mission

The mission of the San Diego Center for Jewish Culture is to offer an array of entertaining and enriching cultural, educational and artistic programming which brings the community together to connect with Jewish heritage, identity, experiences and values. The CJC is committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for San Diego’s entire community.

About CJC

The CJC offers a wide variety of programs that explore cultural identities and perspectives, promote cross cultural understanding, foster ideas of cultural appreciation and respect, and highlight human themes of family, tolerance, compassion and hope. Approximately 40,000 tickets are sold or provided annually to residents, visitors, and students for San Diego Center for Jewish Culture events.
